With the raising levels of obesity, heart disease and diabetes, it’s more important now than ever that we recognize what stage we’re in.
The transtheoretical model of behavioral change has 5 stages:
Precontemplation: those who don’t acknowledge the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle
Contemplation: those who are starting to see the value in being active and begin to identify the implications if being inactive
Preparation: those who are somewhat active and ready to adopt an active lifestyle
Action: those who engage regularly in physical activity for up to 6 months
Maintenance: those who engage in a healthy and physically active lifestyle for more than 6 months
